MHA Member Firm Broomfield & Alexander Announces Merger

Leading professional advisory firm Broomfield & Alexander has announced it’s merger with W R King & Co, the largest independent firm of accountants in Neath.

Three directors and seven members of staff from WR King & Co. will join the team at Broomfield & Alexander from 1 October. The turnover of the merged firm will be approximately £5.5 million with a combined staff count in excess of 100.

The merger will allow WR King & Co.’s clients to access the many specialisms on offer at Broomfield & Alexander, including access to grants, corporate finance and specialist tax planning. MHA member firm Larking Gowen announces further expansion

UK Top 50 ranked independent accountancy practice, Larking Gowen, is to further expand throughout East Anglia as the result of a merger with Colchester-based medical accountancy specialists Hubbard Lloyd.

The merger strengthens Larking Gowen’s position as leading regional accountants, employing more than 300 staff and 22 partners spread across nine offices in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, and will increase the level of specialism in the firm, explained Jon Woolston, Managing Partner at the practice.

“There is great synergy between the Hubbard Lloyd practice and Larking Gowen, which means we strengthen our capability to deliver a specialist service to the medical sector.

“The merger also increases the size of our team in Colchester and expands our reach further into south Essex.  That was one of my aims when I became Managing Partner back in January 2013 and it’s great to be able to deliver on that,” he said.

David Hubbard and Elizabeth Lloyd will head up the Colchester office, working closely with existing manager, Janice Dixon, and Larking Gowen’s existing medical team, led by David Jefford in Norwich.

“Larking Gowen has a strong reputation with medical consultants already and this merger will work to enhance that, plus there are benefits to be had from economies of scale and the sharing of expertise,” said Mr Jefford.

The Larking Gowen Colchester team, previously based on the High Street, will relocate into Hubbard Lloyd’s Colchester Business Park offices, which will now accommodate more than 25 staff under the Larking Gowen name. The Hubbard Lloyd name will be retained for specialist medical work. Outward signs of the merger will be a revamped logo sporting Larking Gowen’s corporate colour of purple.

Hubbard Lloyd was established in Colchester in 2005 by David Hubbard and Elizabeth Lloyd and is the largest specialist medical accountancy firm in East Anglia with more than 1,000 clients and a turnover of £1 million.

The merger pushes Larking Gowen’s predicted turnover for the current financial year to £15 million, up from £13.6 million last year, and increases its client base to more than 13,000 across the region.
