The new Charity Governance Code is a practical aid to assist charities, large and small, in ensuring that their operational practice and governance is fit for purpose in the challenging environment we all face today.
As legal, financial, regulatory and accounting partners, our focus is to use different pillars of the new code to look at practical solutions for issues all charities face. This is not about gold plating the rules, it is about using innovation to make things work for you.
Alyson Howard, Not for Profit Partner at our member firm MHA MacIntyre Hudson will help you use the Code to improve how you do things. What is effective and what is not? How do you avoid wasting money trying to comply with regulations you are not sure you fully understand and cannot exploit properly for your charities’ advantage? Risk management is at the core of all of your activity and doing it well will save you money and make you a more effective organisation.
Christopher Eriksson-Lee, Partner and Head of Private Client at Brachers will cover the legal duties of a charity trustee, their responsibilities and the need for an appropriate paper trail.
Neil Poynton, Head of Charities at CAF will discuss ‘what good governance looks like to a bank’. From opening and running a bank account, through to borrowing requirements and creating investment policies, Neil will offer an insight into what to expect when engaging with your bank.
There will also be a short presentation from Sue Rathmell, VAT Director at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, who will share her top tips on how to maximise VAT recovery and get the best from the VAT reliefs available to charities.
